POSITION DESCRIPTION
Programs Fellow
The fellow will assist the Programs Manager plan and facilitate events, help with fosters and volunteers, etc.

The fellow will be working directly with the community we serve with our programs. They will be working with our low cost vaccine clinic, and pet food pantry, which both help people facing financial hardship. PARL believes everyone who is going to give an animal a safe and loving home deserves to own one if they want. That is why we have these low/free programs in place.

Responsibilities:
• Grow relationships with local food and drink establishments
  o Get contact information
  o Book events (i.e. Supper clubs)
• Make connections with local pet supply stores for donations
• Data entry and report management
• Help collect pet food pantry data
  o Inventory
  o Zip code collections
• Complete foster on-boardings
• Speak to members of the public about PARL’s programs and animal welfare at events
• Directing and aiding volunteers onsite and during mobile events
• Monitor and participate in PARL Volunteer and Foster Facebook groups
• Assist the Program Manager to recruitment, train, and support of all volunteers

Long term projects:
Assisting with off site vaccine clinics and pet food pantries.
Looking into locations if they have not been selected, coming up with layout plans, figuring out crowd control methods, planning transportation.
Go into communities that are using our services and have conversations with them about how we can better serve them. Take this information and create an action plan.

Working Conditions
Work is performed in an animal shelter that operates seven days per week with exposure to animals, including some with questionable health and temperament concerns. Work conditions include exposure to high noise levels, zoonotic diseases, cleaning agents, and allergens such as hay and peanut butter. The person in this position needs to regularly move about the shelter. Regularly operates a computer and other office equipment (i.e. calculator, copier, and printer). Responsible for handling animals of all sizes in a variety of areas and positions (low cages, high cages, on tables, on the floor, in vehicles, etc.). Constantly communicates with clients, staff members and volunteers who have inquiries and must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations. Must be able to push up to 100 pounds and carry up to 50 pounds regularly throughout a normal workday. Occasionally moves animals weighing up to 75 pounds (i.e. through the shelter on leash or using other safe restraint and animal handling equipment, into and out of cages in the shelter, onto and off of exam tables). Working conditions include working outside in varying weather conditions, and frequent interruptions.

• Comfortable around animals, specifically dogs, cats, and small animals of all sizes and breeds.
• Maintain a professional appearance and demeanor during all interactions with staff and public.
• Highly organized, self-motivated, detail orientated
• Basic computer knowledge and ability to conduct research on the internet.
• Ability to operate and speak professionally on phones
• Ability to work independently and in collaboration with others
• Must be at least 18 years of age and have valid driver’s license; must be able to safely drive the organization’s cargo van

PRIMARY LEARNING OUTCOMES
• Understand what is needed to prepare for and run mobile events.
• Analyze data collected and be able to create an action plan.
• Make connections with local businesses to form relationships on behalf of PARL. Use these connections to get donations and partnerships.
• Understand the importance of low/free services and how to improve them.
